Happy New Year from the Big Apple
January 10th, 2020
Happy New Year from the big apple! I know I’m a little late but I have been taking some much-needed down time with those closest to me. Having spent nearly 10 months of 2019 performing around the world, I could not be more thankful to have spent the holidays in Pittsburgh with my family
So what’s up next for me? This is always one of those questions that I am asked when I come back from a contract. As many of you know, I typically take longer breaks between contracts (especially ship ones). I do this for a few reasons…
1. I miss my family and friends
2. I miss the “normal” day-to-day life on land
3. I miss collaborating on new projects
Don’t get me wrong…performing 4 production shows, 2 theme nights and my own solo show in rep was not only challenging but also deeply fulfilling as an artist. However, being away does make it more difficult to audition and become involved in developing projects in New York.
This is why I am planning to spend the next few months pounding the pavement and hitting auditions here in the city. For any of my non-theatre folks out there, spring is the busiest time of year for auditions in NYC. Hundreds of regional theatres make the journey up to the city to cast for their summer seasons and these are in addition to all of the usual calls for Broadway and national tours. During slow season you typically see 1-3 union theatre auditions a week. In the spring, it can be 3+ a DAY! Needless to say it can get a bit crazy but I’m looking forward to what 2020 may bring!
